PASSING THROUGH
Let me die an old mans death
When I'm sixty - five years old.
Still thinking that I'm handsome
Die of exhaustion,
From over doing it, at an all night orgy.
Let me die an old mans death
At three score and ten, and then some
A pensioner only by name.
Laughing at the futility of the young
Let me drop when I'm not so strong.
Or at eighty - seven, still thinking
That a pint and a good looking woman
Is the next best thing to heaven.
Let me fall - - - - let Christ.
Then show me his heaven.
Let me die an old mans death
When I'm getting close to the ton
Let me come face to face with death
Tell him with life I'm not done.
I played him at his game,- - - -I won.
Let me die an old mans death
Sometimes happy, sometimes blue
To all the people that saw me passing through
I'll say that I was glad that I ran into you.
Not a young useless in - between death.
Let me die an old mans death.
Not a timeless, fruitless, stupid death
Of a fighting teenager
Brick on the head death.
